What is it?
Each individual requires a minimum level of energy to sustain vital functions while awake. Your basal metabolic rate is the minimum level of energy your body needs when at rest to function effectively including your respiratory system, liver, kidneys and other organs.
Why is it important?
Knowing your BMR establishes the energy baseline required to develop calorie based weight control strategies through a combination of weight control strategies and regular physical activity. Up to 80% of all calories consumed everyday can be used for your basal metabolism with the other proportion used through thermoregulation and physical activity.
Any recommendations?
If you are looking to establish a weight control strategy using BMR, consult a member of staff.
